Push-Hands

Definition:

A distinctive Taijiquan training method designed to awaken the latent abilities cultivated through Form-Practice and to test how efficiently these abilities can be applied in interactive conditions.

Usage:

  • As a noun: “Though Push-Hands may appear purely physical, its true challenge lies in its mental aspect.”
  • As a verb: “They Push-Hands every morning to improve their responsiveness.”

Additional Notes:

Practicing Push-Hands alone does not directly enhance combat skill; rather, it is used to expose weaknesses that can be addressed through Form-Practice. These weaknesses may appear as lapses in sensitivity or adaptability, yet their true root lies in the quality and continuity of Jin’s coverage. Once revealed through Push-Hands, practitioners can return to Form-Practice with renewed focus and direction.
